Thousand of wild monkeys lived at Bebukitan in Pesedehan Village of Manggis District Karangasem since the last few years destructed local farmers’ activity. None of the plant could grow.

Practically the farmer did not produce anything. Wage said that for the farmer who planted potatoes or cassavas, their plant were pulled out up to the root until it could not grow anymore. The farmer also could not put any hope for the bananas or other fruit plants due to the act of those naughty monkeys.

“The farmer gain no benefit from rented Pasedehan land,” he continued.

The land was rented for Rp 300.000 up to Rp 500.000 per year and it usually bring the farmer pineapple, cassava, liquor and more.

“Pineapple becomes farmer pledge but due to those naughty monkeys it failed to fruit, the farmer here totally attacked by monkey pests,” he added.

Initially, Pesedahan income target per year is around three million rupiah, it was difficult for them to gain the same number this time due to the damage created by that monkeys.

“It’s hard to chase them away since its huge numbers and they also packed the hill,” he said.

I Made Sardana from Pesedehan village also said the same thing. At first, said Sardana, there is only small number of monkeys at Sang Hyang Ambu Hill. In fact, the development of this last five years showed that their number get increase and usually disturb the farmers.

“It is hard for us to abolish or chase them away. If we get it wrong then the farmer will become their object of resentment,” said Sardana.

The only way they could do was conducted hunting activity to the hill. Those monkeys afraid with human who carried gun but still if the condition has been quite they act naughty again,” added Sardana.

The same thing also confessed by the figure in Tenganan Pagringsingan Village of Manggis District, I Nyoman Sadra, B.A.

“Farmers here are suffering from those naughty monkeys. At Tenganan, all duku fruit also engulfed,” said Sadra whose village neighbored with Pesedahan Village.

Regarding pineapple, cassavas, banana and mango completely engulfed by those monkeys.
